Playgrounds Build Healthier and Safer Communities

The expansion of the Carson Road Community by 26 additional homes is part of a $5.5 Million Dollar social housing development project led by City of Ottawa and OCH. Mr. Greco and the Lean & Fit centres across the capital have made this commitment through their charity The Foundation to Fight Obesity in Children.
The Foundation is approached weekly with requests for assistance. “ We are hearing more and more about schools and community centres whose existing play structures are being condemned with no funds available for rebuilding. “ says Greco. “The basic ability to get outside and play, interact with peers and develop basic physical and social skills is fundamental in building healthy kids.” adds Greco. “Playgrounds are not just about providing children with an opportunity to play.” adds Brian Gilligan, Executive Director of Community Development at OCH, “They are also a community gathering point that allows neighbors and families to meet and build friendships.”
